Mission Trip Report - Sunday evening
It's been a full day here with - surprise! - cool weather! We don't know how we lucked into a day of low 80's in El Paso in June, but we'll take it.
We began the day worshipping with the Iglesia El Sembrador congregation, the same one we hosted the block party with Saturday evening. Merle and Jaime found themselves in the nursery keeping babies, and loving it! Worship was enthusiastic. Most of it was in Spanish, but the sermon was presented in English and Spanish so that everyone could understand.
From there we went to the dorm where First Levelland and First Hereford are staying and shared lunch with them. We'll share all our afternoon and evening meals there. The cooking team put us right to work, making gravy and getting lunch on the table. It was delicious!
Next came a planning meeting for the Sports Camp that begins tomorrow. Merle and Jaime looked a little concerned when they heard the focus would be FOOTBALL, but they soon had assignments that fit their skills. Merle will work with the preschoolers and Jaime (and Tracy) will lead the Bible Study. Rob is in charge of a sports something-or-other - he seemed pleased.
After a VERY short nap back at the hotel, it was back to the dorm to fry burgers for supper. Didn't we just eat?
Oh: There's a contest for you folks: we can't identify these two plants, though we see them everywhere. A special El Paso prize for the first person who comments with the names of these two plants!
This evening we went to a community center in a colonia and met with all the other churches who have come to El Paso this week. All in all, there are 10 churches who have come to do construction or lead a children's activity and outreach to the community. We experienced a little bit of "manana" at this event: the person scheduled to open up the building showed up "eventually." It all worked out in the end.
After a quick ice cream, we headed to the hotel for a good night's sleep. We're hoping for cool weather tomorrow - wouldn't that be a blessing!
We hear church went well and that Sarah preached well. We're so thankful for you and for our congregation.
Don't forget about the flickr photo page with other pictures from the trip.
More tomorrow,
Tracy
