"Let Your Life Speak"

Beginning August 17, we have a new book and emphasis for Forum and Worship.

Parker Palmer is an author and lecturer. But more than that, he is the founder of "The Center for Courage and Renewal," an educational non-profit that - through retreats and trainings - encourages people to reconnect "who they are with what they do."

In Forum, we will read and discuss Palmer's book A Hidden Wholeness: The Journey Toward an Undivided Life. Copies are available for $15. In worship we will seek to hear God's call upon us to "Let Our Lives Speak."

Palmer writes, "We hide our true identities from each other. In the process, we become separated from our own souls. We end up living divided lives, so far removed from the truth we hold within that we cannot know the 'integrity that comes from being what you are.'"

As God's call upon us to have a Bigger Faith moves us deeper into his world, we will find it necessary to live authentic lives, lives that are intent on honesty and openness. To respond in such a way is not easy, but it is vital to who we are and how God uses us. As the poet May Sarton writes,

Now I become myself.
It's taken time, many years and places.
I have been dissolved and shaken,
Worn other people's faces . . .
I invite you on this journey over the next ten weeks - the journey to discover your true calling.

Forum Update

Note from Forum Sunday:
On Sunday, we talked about there being more cases of AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa than any place in the world with 22 million infected with HIV in 2007 and 11 million orphans. Sub-Sahara Africa is the area of Africa below the Sahara, in other words, the parts of Africa that are not also considered part of the Middle East.

Just a note of clarification, the country South Africa, which is part of Sub-Sahara Africa, is experiencing one of the most severe AIDS epidemics in the world with 5.7 million HIV cases. Here are some good links to help clarify:

Food for the Henrys

Many of you have expressed a desire to take meals to Joe and Lajean this week. The truth of the matter is, she says, they've already got enough food for days to come.

Instead, they suggest that you consider making a donation to The Hereford Food Pantry in honor of Dana. That way, Lajean says, nothing will go to waste.

She promises to let me know if they start getting hungry!

Natalie and Emily

Our own Natalie Sims, along with her singing-partner Emily Betzen, were invited to sing "The National Anthem" at a Houston Astros game on Saturday night.

You can see it here!

Way to go, ladies! We're proud of you!
