Blogging Toward Sunday

Parker Palmer offers this definition of truth:
Truth is an eternal conversation about things that matter, conducted with passion and discipline."

What is truth? It's the question Pilate asked Jesus at his trial. What is truth? As you ponder that question this week, I offer these famous reflections on truth.

"Truth is by nature self-evident. As soon as you remove the cobwebs of ignorance that surround it, it shines clear." -- Gandhi

"Truth will set you free, but first it will make you miserable." -- James Garfield

"If you look for truth, you may find comfort in the end. If you look for comfort you will not get either comfort or truth only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin, and in the end, despair." -- C.S. Lewis

"Truth is stranger than fiction, but it is because Fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities; truth isn't." -- Mark Twain

"I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word." -- Martin Luther King, Jr.
