Words on Wednesday
Don't forget there's a congregational meeting tonight at 7 pm. Toni will lead the congregation in an important discussion - you won't want to miss!
Book group has chosen a classic for its next read! To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is one of those books everyone needs to read at least once. Dust off your old copy (or pick one up at church, $6) and be ready to discuss on Tuesday, October 19th, 7 p.m.
Continue to pray for Carolyn McDonald, Anna Solomon, and Kathy Middleton as they recover from recent surgeries. As well, keep Cara Dearing and her family in your prayers as they mourn the loss of her father.
Trudy and Roy Hobbs were on their way to El Paso late Tuesday to be with their grandson Caleb and his wife Crissy as they welcome their son Hayden to the world. Pray for all involved. I'll let you know when I hear an update!
My class this semester for my doctorate is on Pastoral Identity. The book I read last week is titled The Leader's Journey and it speaks about the idea of self-differentiation. Self-differentiation is one of the most powerful concepts I've come across over the last year, and I think it's a life-attitude that would be beneficial for us all to embrace. Here is a brief description of self-differentiation:
I'm praying for you this week, and I know you're doing the same for me.

Self-differentiation is one of the most powerful concepts I've come across over the last year, and I think it's a life-attitude that would be beneficial for us all to embrace. Here is a brief description of self-differentiation:
Differentiation deals with the effort to define oneself, to control oneself, to become a more responsible person, and to permit others to be themselves as well. Differentiation is the ability to remain connected in relationship to significant people in our lives and yet not have our reactions and behavior determined by them. Differentiation of self might also include:
- The ability to steer one's own course in the turbulent waters of life
- The ability to allow the life and teaching of Jesus to serve as one's compass rather than reading everyone else's emotional chart
- Being a less-anxious presence in the midst of others' anxieties
- The ability to take responsibility for one's own emotions and feelings, rather than expecting others to deal with them
I'm praying for you this week, and I know you're doing the same for me.
